On 29/04/2025, the coordinator of the Women’s Economic Forum (WEF), Ms. Saxhide Mustafa, participated in a meeting at the National Council for Economy and Investments, where she presented the analyses conducted by WEF members during the years 2017–2025. These analyses addressed the barriers women face in the labour market – particularly in the implementation of maternity leave provisions.
During the meeting, WEF’s proposed model for amending the Labour Law regarding maternity leave was presented as a transitional phase until the adoption of the Social Insurance Law. This law would ensure 100% compensation for maternity leave and would ultimately relieve the private sector from this heavy financial burden.
Kosovo remains the only country in the region that still lacks a Social Insurance Law and continues to place the burden of maternity leave payments (70% of salary for 6 months) on the private sector.
WEF remains committed to advocating for women’s economic empowerment and for a fairer and more inclusive labour market.
