The Women's Economic Forum (FEG) is an independent, inclusive and unifying body that has gathered around itself actors, organizations and individuals of civil society who are committed for the development and empowerment of women in the economy. The forum was jointly established by organizations that are actively involved in improving the position of women in Kosovo. The project to establish the FEG was conceived by the Riinvest Institute, with the support of the Equality Commitment Program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development - USAID and implemented by the Advocacy Training and Resource Center - ATRC. The founding act of the forum was signed on November 16, 2016.
Kosovo is currently characterized by a gender imbalance in terms of women's participation in the economy. This is observed in several areas, including, among others:
• Labor force participation;
• Level of employment and unemployment;
• Entrepreneurship activities;
• Unequal position of women towards the barriers in the business environment.
The main purpose of the FEG is to advance the position of women in the economy, either as employers or employees, through the development of a common advocacy platform. Specifically, the FEG has the following objectives:
Objective 1:
To advance the advocacy channels of relevant actors, through the construction of a more effective and comprehensive platform, which would create better conditions and opportunities for women in business.
Objective 2:
Transform the communication of public institutions with relevant actors engaged in improving the role of women in the economy, by standardizing the process of communication and intervention in the future.
Objective 3:
Prioritize issues of importance, through better use of resources, analysis and advocacy capacity in Kosovo.
Objective 4:
Identify and address topics related to the role of women in the economy, through the creation of a national agenda that will serve as a long-term basis for advocacy.
FEG through advocacy campaigns, meetings, studies, data collection, analysis and consulting, for the first time in Kosovo has drafted the ‘Women National Business Agenda’, which is a comprehensive document for the necessary political and social engagement in the campaign with the aim of supporting women in the economy.
The Women's Economic Forum is a coalition of civil society organizations with the following composition: Riinvest Institute; Kosovo Women's Network; Democracy for Development Institute (D4D); Kosovo Center for Gender Studies; Network of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian Women's Organizations; and Kosova-Women 4 Women, GAP Institute.
