During a discussion organized on September 26, 2024, by the Kosovo Stability Initiative (IKS), representatives of businesses, chambers of commerce, and other business associations expressed their support for the Kosovo Women’s Economic Forum’s call to integrate the Labor Law into the 2024 Legislative Program. Participants emphasized the importance of including both the Forum and business representatives in the process of drafting the Labor Law.

The Labor Law is one of the most important pieces of legislation for taxpayers in the Republic of Kosovo, and as such, it must be treated as a government priority this year.

The Kosovo Women’s Economic Forum shared regional experiences regarding the payment of maternity leave and noted that there was consensus among business representatives that this cost should be borne by the state — a successful practice implemented in neighboring countries.

The following organizations have expressed strong support for this initiative, underlining that the inclusion of the Labor Law in the legislative calendar is a critical step toward strengthening workers’ rights and building a fair and inclusive economy: Kosovo Women’s Economic Forum, Kosovo Business Alliance, American Chamber of Commerce in Kosovo, Association of Private Preschool Institutions, Kosovo ICT Association (STIKK), ESNAF Prizren Association of Businesspeople and Craftsmen, Center for Policies and Advocacy.

The Kosovo Women’s Economic Forum will continue to address this issue in collaboration with other influential institutions and stakeholders across the country.
