Following the government’s decision to remove the Labor Law from the Legislative Calendar — despite numerous requests and reactions from stakeholders — it is now clear that the government’s promises have remained empty words.
The Labor Law is vital for advancing gender equality and improving working conditions in the country. Currently, only 2 in 10 women in Kosovo are employed, and many are forced to work in precarious conditions, without protection and without basic labor rights. The existing law discriminates against both women and men — women due to the burden of maternity leave responsibilities, and men due to the lack of rights to care for their children.
We call on the government to publish the new Draft Law for public consultation and to engage in open dialogue with all relevant stakeholders. We will no longer accept excuses and delays!
