The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, met today with representatives of the Women’s Economic Forum, led by Ms. Saxhide Mustafa. The meeting discussed the urgent need for the adoption of the new Labor Law in the Assembly of Kosovo. President Osmani emphasized that the full and equal integration of women and men in the economy is a long-term strategy to stimulate economic growth and the active participation of women in the economy. In this spirit, the President highlighted that reducing the gender gap in the labor market not only increases the social and economic well-being of women but also contributes to the overall welfare of newborns and families. Therefore, it is essential that the new Labor Law addressing these needs complies with EU directives and is processed as soon as possible in the Assembly.
In particular, the importance of policies related to parental leave was discussed as a key measure to be regulated by this law. President Osmani and representatives of the Women’s Economic Forum discussed possible models of parental leave proposed by civil society organizations, which enable and encourage the active participation of women in the economy based on best international practices.
President Osmani and the Women’s Economic Forum also discussed the importance of responsible gender budgeting as an important measure by both central and local institutions. The meeting called for greater engagement from all relevant institutions to develop and implement fair and effective policies addressing the specific challenges faced by women in the labor market.
